Sunset at Uluru

5/17/04

At dawn everybody piles into their cars, drives out to a designated parking area on the east side of the rock, gets out their cameras, and waits. The land around it is so flat, and the rock so tall, that it’s still in full sunlight long after those of us on the ground are in shadow, and it glows like, well, see above.

Then they mostly pile back into their cars and drive back for breakfast.

This photo was actually taken at sunset, and not from the designated sunset parking lot either. But it’s the same color orange.
