Hang on a moment; there’s something in my pouch

In America we have this impression of kangaroo pouches as these cute little furry pockets, something you could conveniently put a celphone and your wallet in, if you were a kangaroo on the go. In fact they’re almost distressingly biological — which makes sense as they’re basically an external womb. Which has to be kept clean by near-constant licking, apparently. This one had her head firmly embedded most of the time we were there.
