Fireworks in Las Cruces

Fireworks are legal in New Mexico. Really legal, not just temporary-shack-on-the-edge-of-town legal, but grocery stores and Walmart kind of legal. Even the big ones. So the fourth of july is not so much a matter of seeing the official city fireworks display — there is one, but it’s relatively short — as seeing a more or less constant stream of sparks and light rising from every parking lot, roadside, park, or any other semi-non-flammable open location.

It’s kind of pretty.
