Boulder Dedicated To The Memory of W.E.B. Du Bois

In 1969 this boulder was dedicated to the memory of W.E.B. Du Bois. There’s a sign right next to it which says so; brochures and maps are available. It doesn’t explain why they chose a boulder, exactly.

I’m not sure if the boulder does anything special. Perhaps at noon on just one day of each year, if the skies are clear, the light hits the boulder at just the right angle and the shadows form the vivid and undeniable image of W.E.B. Du Bois’ face and upper left shoulder. I’m only speculating.
