A lot has changed in twenty years

Emily and I rewatched The Fisher King not too long ago.

Maybe you remember it: Jeff Bridges plays a DJ who in the course of one of his broadcasts accidentally incites a disturbed listener to a murderous shooting spree. In a fit of remorse over the incident, he quits his radio job and goes into hiding; out of guilt and shame he spends the next three years trying to drink himself to death, eventually actively attempting suicide.

Hard to imagine that as a plausible plot line, these days, isn’t it?
