Oh, Savoy...

8/21/12

(So, this is terribly snarky, but I can’t resist.) Local government is wonderful and terrible in roughly equal parts. Representing the latter half: townofsavoy.org

Some of my favorite parts:

  • Stock photo watermark more prominent than the city name
  • Web hosting company logo more prominent than either
  • “Under construction” notice on homepage from four months ago
  • Three of the five pages in the site are empty
  • All links to content within the site point to file:// urls, which no doubt works fine for whoever built the site but not for anyone using a different computer though I have to admit I’ve been guilty of a variation on this mistake myself
  • All of those file:// urls appear (based on the file extension) to be trying to point to an email attachment rather than to the actual files

OK, I have that out of my system now. I really don’t mean to make fun — well, ok, maybe a little fun — because I know you can’t exactly fund much of a city government with a population of 700, especially with the economy the way it is, and what little money they have probably ought to be going to other things than website development after all.
