Karin Gervasi

This was one of my first serious portraits, back in film school. Karin was one of the most thoroughly camera-shy people I have ever met (including my wife, even, which is saying something) — I have page after page of negatives full of stiff pained grimaces. I finally resorted to having her just toss her head around at random, just to try to loosen things up. And I lucked out.
